Johnny Carson was the joke's biggest fan. He was scheduled for a shoot with Penn about a week after he died.
Gottfried's rendition is epic since he did it right in the middle of Hugh Heffner's roast. They cut it out of the Comedy Central airing of course, and the joke that led up to it (a poor taste joke about flying merely a few weeks after 9/11). Also hearing Bob Saget tell the joke is extremely surreal if you don't know that he's one of the filthiest comics in the business.
Anyhoo, the Aristocrats joke is akin to the dead baby jokes... Shock value but not much else.
