| Not to quote everything Eomer said, but I agree with the "riding course." Most of my friends that ride took the 3 day California Highway Patrol course. They taught you to ride and brake in dry, wet, gravely, and oily conditions. At the end you took the test with them and, *poof*, you have your license. They all said it was well worth the time as the instructor (a CHP motorcycle cop) really hammered in on proper braking, turning, etc.
I wouldn't mind getting a license myself, but the highway from my house to work (~30 miles) is only two lanes. With all the truckers, you have assholes darting in and out of both lanes to get ahead; not to mention all the tailgaters.
I'd probably end up a shitty roadside flower memorial.
