Why wasn't it specifically said he was gay in the books? It's primarily a childrens book ffs, she doesn't go beyond mild kissing and parent/child relationships. If she goes into a character being gay, then the parent reading the book to a child has to stop and explain what 'gay' means. The parent may not be ready to tell the child about that kinda stuff, and she doesn't mention hetrosexual relationships much either.
Then why introduce a gay character at all then? Children see and hear a lot more than you give them credit for. Don't you remember learning all about swear words and the such on the playground when you were younger?

And then the whole argument that Harry Potter has borrowed ideas from other authors so it's ok to copy/paste anything you want from Harry Potter?
No, that would be plagiarism. The argument is that you are allowed to use other literary sources in your own works and to try and litigate and control that sort of use is ridiculous.

This guy wrote a book about Harry Potter with his own thoughts and insights on the series. It is no different than someone writing a book about the Lord of the Rings and all the mythological crap Tolkien took from it. Or someone writing a 'companion' book to the Simpsons or the Matrix.

Or someone like Brady Games making a strategy guide for a game. Yes, I know that Brady usually works in conjunction with whatever company's game they're doing a guide for, but there are tons of 'unofficial' game guides out there.

Or, as Card mentioned, a scholar doing research and work on say, Shakespeare.

JK Rowling writes stuff like this for charity so I don't have much sympathy with the internet guy leeching off her work. The authors should have asked permission to publish this book first.
How is he 'leeching'? He did a bunch of his own work/research and offered it up.

I wonder how much of this book is copy/paste and how much origonal work?
I'm sure that whatever he cites as quotations is 'copy/paste' and the rest of the work, the analysis, explanations, etc. are his own original work.

This guy isn't trying to pass off Harry Potter as his own or trying to write a Larry Scotter book that is a thinly disguised version of the Potter books. He wrote a book ABOUT Harry Potter that takes quotes, names, etc. from the books Rowling wrote.
