Correct, which is what Cloverfield DIDN'T do. First off, it wasn't "the" monster. There were also a bunch of spiders that seemingly came out of no where from what I could tell. One of them that bit the girl, thus causing the army guys to trip out, which made no sense at all, since they never actually explained, or even showed, what happens when someone is bit. All they did was kill her off behind a screen by showing blood splatter. Secondly, it wasn't "a bunch of people", it was four totally and completely unlikeable characters with an unimportant long drawn-out opening scene which had -nothing- to do with the second half of the super short movie. All the rest of the people in New York City never got any "airtime" in respects of showing how they coped, outside of a scene of a truck hauling some of them off, and a scene of a place being looted - though was probably put there only because the main character needed to go there.

I don't mind cases like this. However, there was no setup, there was no ending. There was no development of anything other than monster appears, blows up city, movie over. There was no build up in the movie, it was just irrelivant 30 minutes of some love story/drama/party bullshit to instant climax of the movie, and then it was over - in the middle of the climax, with nothing resolved.

I didn't mind some aspects of the movie - but scenes like going up 57 flights of stairs to hop over the roof of a building, to save the chick with rebar through her arm, and then immediately jump to a scene where they are running off the bottom floor. Uh huh. There are one or two respectable scenes in the movie, but thats it.

It's funny and amusing reading your post. Such a profound failure to understand that everything you mentioned, was intentional and part of the movies purpose.
