I am not a big biography reader, but I did happen to read
The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin recently and I really enjoyed it. It was not overly clinical and much of it felt almost like reading a novel just because of all the amazing shit he was a part of. It focuses more on politics and social issues than his inventing and such. It's very interesting reading about the Revolution and the various roles he played in it.
I'd recommend it if it's on your list, but then I have no frame of reference to compare it to really. I don't normally read those type of books, and it kept me interested so that's the best I can say about it.
