It took me about 6 weeks when I came back to go from level 24-50, but a week or so of that was me trying to solo rather than grouping. Once you figure out that grouping yields much quicker exp and if you hit the major quest lines where the groups are at, it goes really quick.
That was 6 weeks playing anywhere from 4-6 hours a night, but that wasn't straight through playing every single night either.
I've had a few people come back to my guild from eq1 and they hit level 20 in 2-3 nights.
If you're capable of being social enough to get into groups you'll be fine. Really I don't see an expansion or another raid zone coming out anytime soon so it's a good time to try it out and you won't be too far behind. Worst case is you decide you don't like it and you'll be ready for AoC/Wotlk/War in May+.
