If you want blues.....

Derek and the Dominos - Layla
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory (or any album)
The Doors - The Doors
Gov't Mule - High & Mighty
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood

These albums are all bluesy rock, if you want real blues (elmore james, bb king style) then let me know and I can make some other recommendations.

Also, when I want depressed music, I listen to Radiohead. The logical first album to buy there is OK Computer.
